The Bollywood fraternity lost a gem on March 9, when veteran actor and director Satish Kaushik passed away due to a heart attack while travelling to the hospital. Satish was a close friend of Anil Kapoor and Anupam Kher. On April 14, which marked his first birth anniversary since his demise, Anupam hosted a musical night to honour his late friend. Many celebs including Anil Kapoor, Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azami, Rani Mukerji, and Johnny Lever attended the event, but emotions ran high when Anupam and Anil broke down while remembering their friend.
Anupam Kher Remembers Satish Kaushik
Anupam took the stage to pay his respects to Satish and stated, “Satish passed away, but our friendship has survived all ups and downs and has given us the most amazing gift.” Anil had prepared a small audio-visual for Satish, which they watched, after which Anupam asked him to join him on stage. Anil attempted to stand but broke down and returned to his seat. Anupam said, “Heroes always cry, come and friends cry.”
Anupam recalled Satish’s brilliance and said, “He was underrated sometimes, but he was so amazing. He never decided to market himself.” He then shared an incident that occurred during his last conversation with Satish before he passed away. “On the 9th, seven days before he passed, he called me up on my birthday, and I said, ‘You sound very tired. Why don’t you go to the hospital and check-in?’ He said, ‘Don’t worry, I am not going to die.’ And after three hours, he left us.”
Anil Kapoor Breaks Down
Anil and Satish’s bond dates back to their theatre days, and they worked together in several films like Mr India and Deewana Mastana. Anil attempted to speak about his dear friend but broke down after a few steps. Anupam consoled him, “Come, Anil. Okay.” Anupam added, “Anil tu pagal hai. Main theek thaak jaraha tha (Anil, you are mad. I was going fine).”
Satish Kaushik’s Legacy
Satish Kaushik’s contribution to Bollywood and theatre is significant. He found his breakthrough role in Mr India as Calendar and went on to play various characters in several films. He won two Filmfare Best Comedian Awards for Ram Lakhan and Saajan Chale Sasural. Satish Kaushik’s last rites took place in Mumbai, where many Bollywood celebrities attended his funeral.
Satish Kaushik’s demise was a huge loss to the industry, and his dear friends Anil Kapoor and Anupam Kher honoured him on his first birth anniversary after his passing. Their emotions were raw and genuine, reflecting their close bond with the late actor. We hope that Satish Kaushik’s legacy will continue to inspire and entertain us for generations to come. May his soul rest in peace.
