Anupam Mittal, founder of Shaadi.com and a Shark Tank India Judge, is one of many well-known figures who lost their blue verification tick on Twitter after Elon Musk announced the launch of Twitter Blue, a subscription-based service.
A month after the announcement, Twitter removed the blue checkmarks from accounts, including those of celebrities, businessmen, and sportspersons. Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Mittal, and others expressed disappointment as they noticed their blue tick had disappeared. Although the blue tick was restored for some accounts, Anupam Mittal’s was not.
Expressing his frustration, Anupam Mittal took to Twitter and announced that he was canceling his plan to buy a Tesla. Notably, Elon Musk is the founder of the company that offers electric cars, solar, and integrated renewable energy solutions.
Loss of Verification for Celebs
Twitter’s decision to remove the blue tick also impacted other high-profile individuals, including Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Alia Bhatt, as well as politicians like CM Yogi Adityanath, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi, and cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
However, Elon Musk restored the verification badge for users with over a million followers and even personally paid for some celebrities’ Twitter Blue subscriptions to retain their checkmarks, such as basketball star LeBron James, Star Trek star William Shatner, and author Stephen King. The company’s new policy requires users to pay $8 per month for the badge.
Some celebrities had already paid for the subscription, such as Amitabh Bachchan, who was disappointed when his blue tick disappeared despite paying the fee. In a tweet, he appealed to ‘Twitter bhaiya’ to return his blue tick so that people know that his account is authentic. The legendary actor also added that he makes the request with folded hands. His Blue Tick was later restored.
The loss of the blue verification tick on Twitter was a significant event for many public figures, including Anupam Mittal, who canceled his Tesla purchase after losing his verification. Although some accounts had their blue tick restored, Twitter’s new policy requires users to pay a monthly subscription fee to maintain the badge.
