Indian Student’s Death in America Possibly Linked to Blue Whale Challenge: Report

In Washington, another case of suicide involving an Indian student studying in America has come to light. This incident is said to have occurred in March, where a first-year student lost their life while playing a game. There are concerns that behind this suicide case may lie the infamous ‘Blue Whale Challenge,’ which has claimed many victims. Hence, it is also referred to as the ‘Suicide Game.’

A 20-year-old student at Massachusetts University was found dead on March 8th. According to Bristol County District Attorney spokesperson Greg Milliot, the case is being investigated from the angle of “suicide.” However, initially, it was claimed that the student had been murdered. The student was robbed and then murdered, with their body being dumped in the jungle. According to official sources, the student held their breath for two minutes.

Police have not yet confirmed the reason for the student’s death. However, there are also concerns about the involvement of the Blue Whale Challenge. The “Blue Whale Challenge” is an online game where players are given challenges to perform. The game consists of 50 levels, which become increasingly difficult.

The Indian government had considered banning the “Blue Whale Challenge” years ago, but instead opted to issue an advisory. In an advisory issued by the Ministry of IT a year after the game started in 2017, it was stated, “The Blue Whale game is provocative for suicide. Therefore, stay away from it.”

When asked specifically about the student’s death related to this game, Milliot said, “We have no information regarding its involvement. The investigation into the case is being conducted as a suicide. We are awaiting the final report from the medical examiner before closing the case. This incident occurred on March 22.”

According to reports, this game is played on social media platforms. It involves an administrator and a participant. During the 50-day period, the administrator assigns a task every day. Tasks are relatively easy at the beginning but become increasingly difficult in the final stages, often involving self-harm.
