As summer temperatures soar, people are constantly searching for effective ways to stay cool. While air conditioners and coolers are standard solutions for single rooms, a man’s ambitious project to cool his entire house has captured the internet’s attention. A viral video showcases his innovative, albeit controversial, “jugaad” – a massive cooler installed directly on his roof.
The video, which has amassed over 16.6 million views, details the man’s process of constructing this unique cooling system. He begins by installing an exhaust fan into an opening on the roof. He then builds a small, canal-like structure around the fan using stones to serve as a water tank. A water pump is integrated into the system to circulate the water and, in theory, shower cool mist down into the house. To complete the cooler-like appearance and function, he surrounds the setup with cooling pads and covers it with a shed.
This unconventional approach to home cooling was shared on Instagram by user Tariq Ansari with the caption, “Don’t use AC, use your brain.” The video has since sparked a flurry of reactions from viewers.
While some have applauded the creativity, with one user commenting, “Desi air is the best air,” many others have been quick to point out potential flaws in the design. Critics have raised concerns about the system’s practicality and efficiency. One user noted, “Warm air tries to rise and exit. This cooler will just push it back inside.” Another commenter weighed the effort against the cost, stating, “You could get a window AC for all this trouble.”
The debate also touched upon the cooler’s effectiveness in extreme heat, with a user remarking, “A cooler shows its true colors in 50-degree [Celsius] heat; an AC is better.” The potential noise generated by such a large, homemade device was another point of contention, with a comment reading, “A quiet AC is better than a noisy cooler.”
Despite the mixed reactions, the video highlights a common desire for innovative and affordable cooling solutions, especially as heatwaves become more intense. While this particular rooftop cooler may not be the most practical invention, it has certainly gotten people talking about the lengths one might go to for a bit of relief from the summer heat.
