Israel Iran Conflict: China Urges Peace Amidst Tensions

In a series of intense attacks over the weekend, Iran launched nearly 300 missiles and drones targeting Israel. While this assault has drawn criticism from countries worldwide, including the United States and Britain, Israel is now being urged for peace. However, China has taken a different stance, opposing Israel in the United Nations Security Council. China argued that the conflict initiated from Israel’s side, referencing Israel’s recent attack on Iran’s consulate in Syria as a particularly brutal act.

China’s ambassador to the United Nations, Dai Bing, asserted that Israel’s attack on Iran’s consulate in Syria fueled the conflict. He condemned it as a highly reprehensible and cruel action. Iran claimed that seven of its personnel were killed in this attack. However, according to media reports, the strike resulted in the deaths of 12 individuals, including a top Iranian general. Despite Iran holding Israel responsible, Benjamin Netanyahu’s government dismissed these allegations.

Now, China appears to be siding with Iran in this matter. It described Israel’s attack on Iran as an act of cruelty. China calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities from both sides and appeals for maintaining peace. Furthermore, China has urged for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza to facilitate humanitarian assistance to the affected population. Adding to Israel’s concerns, the United States has also declined to actively intervene in the conflict.

However, U.S. President Joe Biden has proposed a $14 billion fund to aid Israel. Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, emphasized the need for a deal with Israel. A decision on a package for Israel will be made this week.
