There has been a major uproar online due to a viral video in which the Buddhist leader Dalai Lama is seen kissing a child on the lips and then asking him to “suck his tongue.”

The video shows the Buddhist monk planting a kiss on the boy’s lips when he leans in to pay his respects to the spiritual leader. The monk then sticks out his tongue and asks the child to suck it. “Can you suck my tongue?” he asks the young boy.

The video was shared on Twitter with a caption that called out the act as “disgusting.” It read, “Pedo-Dalai Lama kissed an Indian boy at a Buddhist event and even tried to touch his tongue, the boy then resisted. What a disgusting scene. In the video published on the “official” networks, the scene was obviously cut… as if by magic!”

The video has sparked a lot of angry reactions from internet users. One comment reads, “This is so disgusting, if he’s not Dalai Lama, he would’ve been charged as a child molester already?” Another user tweeted, “What am I seeing? Is this Dalai Lama? Needs to be arrested for pedophilia. Disgusting.”

This is not the first time that the Dalai Lama has faced criticism. In a 2019 interview with a British broadcaster, he made comments that were widely deemed sexist. He stated that if his successor were to be a woman, she should have to be “attractive.” He later apologized for the remarks, which drew widespread condemnation around the world.
