Allegations on Kiran Rao in “Laapataa Ladies” – Producer Anant Mahadevan’s Bold Claim on Kiran Rao’s Alleged Plagiarism

After establishing himself as a producer with “Dhobi Ghat,” Kiran Rao ventured into directing her second film, “Laapataa Ladies.” Alongside Kiran Rao and Jyoti Deshpande, Aamir Khan also joined as a producer. Since its release, the film has been making headlines for all the right reasons, captivating hearts with its simplicity and straightforward narrative. However, now actor-filmmaker Anant Mahadevan has made a bold claim that has left everyone stunned.

Recently, actor-filmmaker Anant Mahadevan made a startling claim in an interview that several established scenes in Kiran Rao’s directed “Laapataa Ladies” were reminiscent of his 1999 film “Aksar.” The film starred Joy Sengupta, Vishal Varma, Neha Pandse, Sucheta Khanna, and others.

Moreover, he revealed that in his film, a city boy travels to his village to marry and chaos ensues at the railway station when he asks for his new bride (who remains veiled) to wait for him. On a bench, as he goes in search of some details and returns, he ends up with the wrong bride.

Anant mentioned that the storyline adopted by his film “Laapataa Ladies” deviates from the story it borrowed. Additionally, he noted a particular scene in Kiran Rao’s directed film, where a policeman fails to identify a woman because she is veiled, which was also lifted from his film “Aksar.”

Anant Mahadevan also finds it strange that his film “Aksar,” which was available on YouTube until recently, has mysteriously disappeared from the internet. He also mentioned that he hasn’t contacted either Aamir Khan or Kiran Rao regarding this matter as he knew they would deny any differences in the stories. Furthermore, he stated that he has no evidence since his film is no longer available on YouTube. As for Kiran Rao’s directed “Laapataa Ladies,” the film is now available on the OTT platform Netflix.
