South cinema is surging forward this year, much like its Hindi counterpart. From the first blockbuster of the year, ‘Hanuman,’ to date, no other Telugu or Tamil film has made a significant impact at the box office. With ‘Guntur Karam’ and ‘The Family Star’ struggling, the state of South cinema seems precarious. All eyes are now on these five upcoming films, with director Nag Ashwin’s ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ leading the pack.
The Anticipation for Kalki and Ashwatthama
Through the film ‘Salar Part 1 – Seize Fire,’ actor Prabhas has made a stunning comeback to the big screen. The upcoming film ‘Kalki 2898 AD,’ directed by Nag Ashwin, is already generating buzz among audiences. This sci-fi film intertwines with mythological narratives. Prabhas portrays Kalki, while Amitabh Bachchan takes on the role of Ashwatthama, a legendary figure from the past century. The film also stars Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani in pivotal roles. The release of this film, slated for May, is uncertain due to the impending Lok Sabha election results.
Eagerly Awaiting Junior’s Debut

Apart from the South, the Hindi version of this film has already garnered immense craze among audiences. Alongside Junior NTR, the film features Saif Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Prakash Raj in prominent roles.
Bobby Deol’s Charm in Kangwa
Following his sensational return to the big screen with the film ‘Animal,’ actor Bobby Deol is set to appear in his first South Indian film, ‘Kangwa.’ Directed by Siruthai Siva, this Tamil period action drama has also caught attention for Suriya’s charismatic role.
