The world needs a Superman, and according to the first reviews, James Gunn’s highly anticipated film delivers exactly that and more. The first film in the new DC Universe is already leaving an indelible mark on audiences after early screenings, ahead of its global release on July 11, 2025.
After a 12-year wait, audiences are finally getting ready to welcome their favorite superhero back to the big screen. When director James Gunn first announced in 2022 that he would helm a story about a young Clark Kent in his early years in Metropolis, the news was met with excitement. However, the casting of David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane was initially met with some skepticism online. Now, with the first reactions pouring in, it’s clear that the cast has won over critics and audiences alike.
Journalist Hemant Mankad shared a glowing review, rating the film an “Outstanding” 4 out of 5 stars. He wrote, “Finally, a #Superman that we deserve, and a superhero film that an iconic character like #Superman deserves. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a superhero film on the big screen, and the new Superman movie has filled that void.”
Mankad praised director James Gunn for delivering a film that “brings together all the elements we want to see in a superhero movie.” He described the film’s pacing as explosive, saying, “The film starts with a bang, moves like a rocket, and leaves you on a cinematic high in the climax. It makes you fall in love with the character and ideology of Superman all over again!”
He went on to declare it “the best #DC Comics film in the last 25 years, apart from the #NolanTrilogy, on par with the first #WonderWoman film.” The performances also received high praise: “#DavidCorenswet is amazing in the title role, as are #NicholasHoult as Lex and #RachelBrosnahan as Lois! Go and celebrate the homecoming of the greatest comic book character – Superman. This film is worth every penny of your ticket. A must-watch!”
