Delhi High Court Dismisses Arrest and Remand, AAP to Approach Supreme Court Against the Verdict

In a recent development, the Delhi High Court has turned down the petition challenging the arrest related to the alleged financial irregularities associated with the excise policy scam, thus prompting the Supreme Court’s intervention. Sources from the Aam Aadmi Party disclosed this information on Tuesday. The Delhi High Court dismissed Kejriwal’s petition on Tuesday.

Justice Swarnakanta Sharma, delivering the verdict, stated, “The court believes that the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal does not violate legal provisions. The remand cannot be deemed unlawful.” Alongside the arrest, Kejriwal was also challenged with being remanded to the custody of the Enforcement Directorate. He is currently under judicial custody. The case pertains to alleged corruption and financial irregularities in formulating and implementing the excise policy of the Delhi government for 2021-22, which was later revoked.

Following the High Court’s rejection of security from coercive action by the Enforcement Directorate, Arvind Kejriwal was arrested on March 21. After the expiration of the ED’s custody period, he was presented in the lower court and was subsequently sent into judicial custody on April 1.
