Starlink Satellite Internet Plans in India: Prices Revealed!

Starlink Satellite Broadband Service, developed by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, is expected to launch in India soon. The company recently received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from the Department of Telecommunications, paving the way for its entry. After spectrum allocation, Starlink could officially introduce its broadband services in India. Apart from Starlink, companies like Amazon, Jio, and Airtel are also competing to launch their satellite broadband services. Notably, Starlink has already launched its services in neighboring countries like Bangladesh and Bhutan, where plans range between ₹4,000 and ₹6,000. However, Starlink’s internet plans in India are expected to be significantly cheaper compared to these countries.

Starlink Plans Expected to Start Below ₹840

According to an ET report, Starlink and other satellite broadband providers in India may offer entry-level plans priced below ₹840 (approximately $10). TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has proposed that satellite communication service providers should keep monthly user charges at ₹500 for urban areas. This affordable pricing could boost the number of satellite internet users, helping providers recover spectrum and operational costs while expanding their user base.

Starlink’s Global Presence

Elon Musk’s Starlink currently provides satellite broadband services in over 105 countries worldwide. Recently, the company launched satellites equipped with Direct-to-Cell capabilities, enabling smartphones to connect directly to satellites for seamless connectivity. This technology was tested in collaboration with US telecom operator T-Mobile, showcasing its potential for global communication advancements.

What is Direct-to-Cell Technology?

Starlink’s Direct-to-Cell (D2C) technology allows users to send calls and messages from their smartphones without relying on terrestrial mobile networks. It also provides internet connectivity, even in remote areas, during emergencies. This innovative service does not require any hardware modifications, and standard 4G/5G phones can directly connect to satellites for service. Elon Musk’s SpaceX is heavily investing in satellite-based internet and mobile services to revolutionize connectivity worldwide.
