We have often heard hilarious stories of people doing strange things after having a few too many drinks, but have you ever heard of an animal throwing a liquor party for itself? In a bizarre and funny incident that has left netizens in splits, a raccoon in Virginia, USA, decided to have its own “Happy Hour” by breaking into a liquor store. The furry intruder not only smashed bottles of expensive alcohol but also reportedly got drunk and passed out in the bathroom, creating quite a scene for the store employees.
The incident took place at an ABC store in Ashland, Virginia, where the masked bandit made a grand entry by falling through the ceiling tiles. Once inside, the raccoon went on what officials described as a “drunken rampage.” It seems the animal had a taste for the finer things in life, as it targeted the bottom shelf where scotch and whiskey bottles were stored. The little “sharabi” knocked over several bottles, creating a pool of alcohol on the floor, and presumably lapped up enough to get completely intoxicated.
The discovery was made early Saturday morning when an employee arrived to open the shop. To their surprise, they found the store in disarray with broken glass and spilled liquor everywhere. Upon further inspection, they found the culprit—the “trash panda”—passed out cold on the bathroom floor, likely suffering from a heavy hangover. The sight was so unusual that even the animal control officer, Samantha Martin, couldn’t help but giggle while handling the situation. She described the raccoon as a “funny little critter” who had clearly had a wild night.
Hanover County Animal Protection and Shelter later confirmed that the raccoon was taken into custody—for its own safety, of course. Fortunately, the animal showed no signs of injury, apart from perhaps a bad headache and regret over its “poor life choices.” After being allowed to sleep off the buzz for a few hours, the sobered-up raccoon was safely released back into the wild. The shelter authorities humorously noted that they hope the animal has learned its lesson that breaking and entering is not the solution to its problems.
