US Vlogger Video: An American woman traveling in India has sparked an online debate by posting a video. Recording from inside a mall, the traveler named Sierra Lilian explained why many foreigners overlook the country’s modern, comfortable, and culturally rich places. In her video, she is seen talking about her experience. She can be heard saying, “You can have a great time in India, provided you don’t come here and be broke. Look at this place. It has everything. I just got a full body massage for four US dollars. Oh my God, there’s a Birkenstock store here too, and H&M, yes Adidas and Bath & Body Works as well. If you think India is just full of dirty places and dilapidated cities, then you are not going to the right places.”

This video has been shared on Instagram from the handle named @sierraliliann. Her clip has text written on it, “Why do people only show the worst part of India.” Along with the video, Sierra posted a caption questioning why social media rarely shows India’s diverse and modern landscapes. She writes, “Where are these viral videos that show this India? Videos of rich and deep culture, welcoming people, first-class malls and shopping centers, clean and beautiful cities? Where are the videos of Kerala’s backwaters? Of a modern tech hub like Bengaluru? Of ancient temples nestled in the lap of the Himalayas in Uttarakhand? India has some very rough places, it is true.”
Fitting Reply to Trollers
Sierra Lilian writes, “Travelers should highlight the beauty of the country, not just promote a negative image. As travelers, we should show those parts of this country that are extremely beautiful, not just the bad parts. I am not saying that bad parts cannot be shared, but those parts should not be considered a representation of the whole country. India has given me more happiness than America, so when people talk only about the bad parts, it hurts me a lot. There is much more to this beautiful country than these viral videos that are shown to the world. What do you think about this current online trend of people showing only the bad parts of India?”
