A shocking virtual court blunder has gone viral after a man was caught attending a formal hearing for the Gujarat High Court from a toilet seat. The incident highlights the ongoing challenges with courtroom etiquette in the age of virtual proceedings.
The bizarre event took place on June 20, 2025, during a video conference hearing presided over by Justice Nirzar S Desai. In a one-minute video clip that has since spread across social media, the man, identified on Zoom as “Samad Battery,” is clearly seen sitting on a toilet with a Bluetooth headset around his neck.
At one point, he adjusts his phone, giving the court a clear view of his surroundings. The footage proceeds to show him washing up before leaving the bathroom, apparently unaware or unconcerned that he was live before the court. He was reportedly the complainant in a criminal case related to a bounced cheque.

A Pattern of Virtual Court Blunders
This is not an isolated incident but the latest in a series of inappropriate appearances that have tested judges’ patience. Courts have been cracking down on such behavior, issuing hefty fines to maintain the decorum of legal proceedings.
Previously, other individuals have faced serious consequences for their own virtual court blunder:
- A litigant was fined ₹50,000 for smoking during a hearing.
- Another man was hit with a massive ₹2 lakh fine and community service for joining proceedings from a lavatory.
- A third individual was fined ₹25,000 for attending a hearing while lying in his bed.
Despite the man’s inappropriate location in this recent case, the court proceeded with the matter. After both parties confirmed they had reached an amicable settlement, the FIR against the man was quashed.
