The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made a comeback to Chepauk after a long break and put on a remarkable performance in front of their home crowd on Monday. They defeated KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants by 12 runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway were the top scorers for the home team, while MS Dhoni hit two sixes in two balls before being dismissed while attempting a third. Following CSK’s triumph, the mentor of Lucknow franchise, Gautam Gambhir, became a topic of discussion on social media.

On Monday, India also celebrated the 12th anniversary of their national cricket team’s 2011 ODI World Cup triumph, where Dhoni and Gambhir played pivotal roles in the final. However, in the IPL match, Dhoni and Gambhir stood at opposite ends.

Fans on Twitter reacted to the match, and Dhoni’s impressive hitting skills were highly appreciated. Despite his age of 41, he hit two powerful sixes to help CSK score 217 runs. LSG was only able to score 205, with Moeen Ali being the standout performer with four wickets.

After the game, Dhoni expressed his surprise at how well the wicket played. He said that the match was a terrific high-scoring game, and the pitch was perfect for the first game. He had expected the wicket to be slower, but it turned out to be a wicket where runs could be scored. However, he also noted that they would have to see if they could produce a similar wicket in the future games.

Dhoni also issued a warning to his pace bowlers, asking them to improve their performance and avoid bowling no-balls and extra wides. He stated that if they did not adhere to these instructions, they would have to play under a new captain. He emphasized that the team’s success was due to a good pitch and that the fast bowlers needed to bowl according to the conditions.

With this win, CSK has opened their win account for the 16th edition of the T20 league.
