On April 9, 2023, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) secured their first win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) against the Punjab Kings in their second home game at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Despite losing their first two games, the Orange Army finally won to the excitement of thousands of fans at Uppal. Kavya Maran, the daughter of Kalanithi Maran, the founder and chairman of Sun Network, has been a constant supporter and a regular presence at SRH games.
In every SRH game, Kavya Maran has been a favorite of the camera, who captures her reactions and displays them on the big screen. However, during the April 9 game, she was not happy with the camera’s constant focus on her. In the 19th over of Punjab Kings’ innings, when captain Shikhar Dhawan was batting on 90, Kavya Maran visibly expressed her annoyance and told the cameraman to “go away, man” by mouthing the words. The video of the incident has gone viral.

Kavya Maran has been a camera favorite in the 2023 edition of the IPL, as her reactions to her team’s performance have become a sensation on social media.
However, April 9 was a day of celebration for her and all SRH fans. From the toss to the final boundary hit by Rahul Tripathi, everything went right for the Sunrisers against the Punjab side. Leg-spinner Mayank Markande, who replaced Adil Rashid, took four wickets, and despite Shikhar Dhawan’s one-man show for Punjab, they restricted the visitors to 143, which was a below-par score on a decent surface.
The Sunrisers were in a bit of trouble having lost two wickets, but Rahul Tripathi’s unbeaten knock of 74 runs off just 48 balls, alongside skipper Aiden Markram, ensured that the home team didn’t lose any more wickets and chased the total down with 17 balls remaining.
